Baltimore hit with “very aggressive” RobbinHood ransomware

The city of Baltimore is battling a “very aggressive” cyber attack from “RobbinHood” ransomware.

Fortunately, it hasn’t affected emergency services, city officials said, but it has knocked out online payments, city records systems, email, and phone systems.

Democratic City Council President Brandon Scott told the Baltimore Sun the city IT office made some changes in the last year after being hit by a previous attack, but he plans to review the budget to ensure enough resources are being devoted to computer security.

The Sun quoted brand-new mayor of Baltimore, Bernard C. “Jack” Young, as saying: “I don’t care what kind of systems you put in place, they always can find a way to infect your system.”

The Sun said the FBI is investigating.
