Meet an accused Chinese cybercriminal whom the FBI says is part of the “Advanced Persistent Threat 10” or APT 10.
Zhu Hua, a penetration tester for a Chinese company, is accused by a U.S. federal grand jury of being one of the hackers which stole technology and other intellectual property on behalf of the Chinese government from 2006 through 2018.
Zhu and a Chinese colleague are accused of stealing from governments and private companies in 12 countries, including the US.
An APT10 attack typically began with a spear phishing email that included a malicious Microsoft Word attachment, the indictment said. Victims worked at organizations which specialized in aviation, space and/or satellite technology, communications, advanced electronic systems, maritime technology, and oil and gas drilling.
High-profile victim organizations include NASA’s Goddard Space Center and Jet Propulsion Laboratory andthe U.S. Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
